The Silver Comet Bike Ride – October 10 -11 Cancelled

Hurricane Delta forces the cancellation

Jeff and Brenda Henderson are again planning a bike ride for everyone at LGYC that wants to join.  The ride will be on the Silver Comet Trails in Georgia which is a rails to trails route, following mostly the old Seaboard System RR line.  While the full length goes from Anniston, AL to Smyrna, GA the group will ride from Rockmart Georgia down to the Tara Drummond Trailhead (or even further) and back on Saturday October 10th starting at 10 am. Slower riders or those who simply do not want to ride the 34+ miles could simply turn around when they are ready as long as we practice the buddy system (NOBODY rides alone). The big tunnel is about 7 miles from Rockmart so if you were to do a turnaround there, it would be a 14-mile ride.  You can add a second ride on Sunday if you want.

Jeff and Brenda plan to stay at the Econolodge Hotel on Friday October 9th and Saturday October 10th.  If you want to book as well, hotel details are listed below.

The ride will start at the trailhead in Rockmart at 10 am so if you are driving, allow time to arrive and be ready to ride.

After the ride we can plan to do a socially distance BYOB happy hour at a place to be determined later.

On Sunday those that want can do a shorter ride from Cedartown to the state line and back on Sunday morning or take on Mount Trashmore!  These rides can start and finish at the hotel so it will be easy to go different directions and leave a spouse behind for an hour or two while those wanting more riding head out.  Sunday plans will be finalized at happy hour on Saturday.

If you plan to join, let Jeff know what days you plan to ride and what distance and pace you would like to ride.  Last year the group generally split into a faster pace group at about 15 mph and a slower group that rode at about 10-12 mph.

EXAMPLE:

Brenda and Jeff Henderson - Friday and Saturday nights, 40+ miles, 15mph average moving speed.
